This morning as I prepared to visit family for the holidays I learned of the passing of The Godfather of Soul and so Much More, James Brown...

"Disco is James Brown, hip-hop is James Brown, rap is James Brown; you know what I'm saying? You hear all the rappers, 90 percent of their music is me,"

At least on that level a large part of Hiphop IS Dead...

James Brown, Known as "Mr. Please, Please, Please," The "Soul Survivor," "The Hardest Working Man in Showbusiness," "Mr. Dynamite," "Soul Brother Number One," Perhaps Most Popularly "The Godfather of Soul" and, to be correct, the Single Most Influential Musician of the Last 50 Years has passed early this morning.

Michael Jackson, Prince, and Countless Others Mimicked his Fashion...

Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, MC Hammer, and Countless Others Mimicked his Movements...

Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, David Bowie, Prince, and Countless Others Mimicked his Vocal Stylings...

He was among the Inaugural Batch Inducted to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, alongside Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and others.

His List of Top Ten Singles Spans from 1956-1988.

"James presented obviously the best grooves. To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one's coming even close."
-Chuck D, Public Enemy.

Hiphoppas have felt this way from the Beginning... Early Hiphop Deejays Extended the Breaks of his Records while the B-Boys Got Down. His are the Most Celebrated and Most Sampled Breakbeats of All-Time. His Voice is the Most Sampled of All-Time. James Brown is the Most Sampled Musician of All-Time.

James will Continue to be Sampled by Hiphoppas. It is Through Hiphop that the Youth will be Introduced his Music and it is through Hiphop that the youth will be Driven to Look Deeper into his Catalog and his Legacy will Continue to Live On.

...and it is through this that Hiphop will Continue to Live On...

James Brown was 73.
Hiphop is 33 and Growing...
