At a recent listening party for his new album "Hip-Hop is Dead... The N" Nas had the following to say on the album title and the general state of the game:
"Hiphop is Dead because We Killed It. -Everybody in here is Responsible... Everybody in here has the Power to make this shit go to the Future, and Beyond... The Rap Game is Stale; That's just my Personal Opinion and I made this move to Show Leadership in the Rap Game man 'cause the (cats) that have Leadership Positions are Talkin' about who's Ring is Bigger and all that Bullshit... and they makin' snitches look good and shit like that... I come from a fabric that wasn't like that. -I used to see it different when I was comin' up. I've been Blesed to do this rap shit for a long time... and I love this shit. -I love it to death, but I got a Love/Hate Relationship with Hip-Hop Music right now."
