Hip Hop Icon Ludacris to Perform Live At Season-Ending "Super Bowl" of
Action Sports, Featuring World's Best Skateboarding, Inline, BMX and
Freestyle Motocross Pros
DALLAS, TX October 7, 2007 -- More than
125 of action sports' biggest superstars will compete for the title of
World Champion when the LG Action Sports World Championships once again
will turn Dallas' Reunion Arena into a Texas-sized skate park from
November 9 - 11. In addition, hip-hop icon Ludacris will perform live
as the musical headliner for LG's three-day action sports and
entertainment extravaganza.
The prestigious LG Action Sports World Championships is the culmination of the 2007 competition season for Skateboarding, BMX, Inline Skating and Freestyle Motocross (FMX) pros and marks the fifth year that LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc (LG Mobile Phones) has sponsored the event. The professional athletes qualify to compete at the World Championships based on their results from a series of 22 qualifier events around the world. With its unparalleled field of athletes and comprehensive qualifying process, the LG Action Sports World Championships is considered the annual "Super Bowl" in the world of action sports, and with $650,000 up for grabs, it represents the largest per-sport prize money in history. "The LG Action Sports World Championship has proven to be a great way to connect with loyal customers for LG Mobile Phones," said Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president of product strategy & marketing. "The past five years of sponsoring the event have given our consumers -- who are true fans of action sports -- a chance to capture and share the fantastic feats and total excitement on their LG mobile phones." "We are delighted to bring the world's top Action Sports athletes back to Dallas-Fort Worth," said Rick Bratman, President of ASA Entertainment, the company that produces the event. "In the world of Action Sports, this is an event that really is as big as Texas. Not only does it offer more prize money and TV coverage than any other event, but it also has a competitive vibe that encourages the athletes to try their craziest tricks." In addition to the over-the-top action and excitement of the competitions, the event will feature a lineup of national recording artists performing live each day. Already confirmed is music icon and feature film star Ludacris, who'll perform live on Saturday, Nov. 10th and on Sunday, Nov. 11th, Cartel will bring its pop-infused brand of alternative rock to the Reunion Arena crowd. The headline act for Friday, Nov. 9th and additional afternoon performances for the weekend are yet to be announced. Unlike most other action sports events like the X-Games that are invitation-only contests, the LG Action Sports World Championships is open to all athletes from around the world with entry based solely on their collective performances and rankings from the entire season. Athletes from 20 countries will compete at the event, including a host of X Games and World Champions. Some of the industry's superstars expected to participate include Dave Mirra (USA), Bucky Lasek (USA), Bob Burnquist (BRA), Ryan Nyquist (USA), Jamie Bestwick (UK), Sandro Dias (BRA), Pierre Luc Gagnon (CAN), Andy MacDonald (USA), Rune Glifberg (DEN), Simon Tabron (UK), Ryan Guettler (AUS), Kevin Robinson (USA), Chad Kagy (USA), Daniel Dhers (VEN), Fabiola da Silva (BRA) and Takeshi Yasutoko (JAP). Globally, the event will be seen in 180 countries on 22 networks that reach more than 1.2 billion viewers. The CBS broadcasts will air on Sunday, November 18, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM (EST) immediately following NFL Football, on Saturday, December 15 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM (EST) and on Saturday, December 22 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM (EST).
